This course builds on students’ existing reading and writing competence and develops these abilities towards Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students will engage with a range of literary and non-literary texts on contemporary and general-interest topics. They apply appropriate reading strategies to locate relevant information, distinguish main ideas from supporting details, make inferences, and identify writers’ purposes and viewpoints. Through integrated reading-to-write activities, students will analyse and respond to themes, characters, events and ideas in creative texts. Students also apply the writing process to plan, draft, review and revise coherent and well-organised response essays, emphasizing clear thesis statements, focused topic sentences and supporting details, logical organisation, and appropriate language.
