MT10204 Evidence-Based Scientific Enquiry [1-2026/2027]

This module teaches students the methodology of evidence-based scientific investigation, including how to read and assess health reports and articles in medical journals, how to develop a research proposal systematically, epidemiological studies, use of basic statistics and epidemiology, practice good research design, execute good research practice, analyse data properly and interpret the results appropriately. The students will receive theoretical knowledge and hands-on training in data analysis using SPSS. The application of the research techniques in the investigation of diseases and health problems will be demonstrated.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module, students should be able to:                                           

1.     Explain the different types of epidemiological studies and statistical analysis. (C2, PLO1)

2.     Apply appropriate epidemiological and statistical methods in preparing a research proposal for a health-related problem. (C3, PLO6)
