PH710602 Special Issues in Family Health is a 2-credit elective core course in the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) programme. The course provides advanced knowledge and skills for identifying, analysing, and managing emerging and complex issues in family health. It examines family health challenges in relation to political, socio-cultural, behavioural, demographic, and other determinants across different stages of the life cycle.
The course covers contemporary issues in maternal and child health, adolescent health and development, reproductive health, risk behaviours, STI and HIV/AIDS prevention, men’s health, nutrition among vulnerable populations, geriatric care, gender inequalities, and family health issues within local contexts. Students will learn to evaluate these issues using relevant data, statistics, demographic indicators, and evidence while considering cultural sensitivity, social justice, ethical values, and human rights.
Through small-group discussions, seminars, projects, presentations, and other learning activities, students will strengthen their communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The course aims to prepare future public health leaders to develop appropriate conceptual frameworks and evidence-based interventions and to manage emerging family health challenges effectively and efficiently using available resources.
