This course introduces students to the basic concepts and practices of operations management in manufacturing and service organisations. It focuses on how organisations plan, manage and improve their operations to achieve efficiency, quality and sustainable performance. Topics covered include operations strategy, process design, forecasting, capacity planning, inventory management, quality management and productivity improvement.
Students learn to apply appropriate operations management tools and techniques to analyse operational problems and support decision-making. The course also develops critical thinking and numeracy skills through the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, with consideration of sustainable and responsible practices. In addition, teamwork and interpersonal skills are fostered through group discussions and collaborative projects. By the end of the course, students will be able to contribute effectively to operations management activities in organisational settings.
