This course is intended to provide students with an understanding of the importance and roles of laws and regulations for ocean governance, e.g. in the sustainable use and conservation of natural marine resources and the natural marine and coastal environments, through practice in application of knowledge. This will be complemented by discussions on the ethics in exploitation and conservation of resources in terms of development and modernisation. A visit to and/or ONLINE presentation by an external organisation/s to learn more on the actual implementation/enforcement of relevant laws, will complement classroom activities.
This course is intended to provide students with an understanding of the importance of environmental law and ethics in marine governance and conservation. It covers key policies, regulations, and legal frameworks in marine environmental protection, with a focus on anthropogenic and climate change threats. This will be complemented by discussions, role-play activities, and case studies on local environmental issues and legislation to manage these threats.
