SL31103 ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND ETHICS [2-2022/2023]

This course is intended to provide students with an understanding of the importance, and roles of laws and regulations in the sustainable use and conservation of natural marine resources and the natural marine and coastal environments, through practice in applying knowledge. This will be followed with discussions on the ethics in the exploitation and conservation of resources in terms of development and modernisation. A visit to an external organisation to learn the actual implementation of relevant laws by the such an organisation is arranged, to complement classroom activities.

SL31403 BIOTEKNOLOGI MARIN [2-2022/2023]

Marine biotechnology is the use of living marine organism or their products to enhance our lives and environment.

It is a broad and complex discipline that encompasses many specialized areas.

Emphasis will be given on:

- fundamentals of genetic, tools uses in marine biotechnology and application of genetic technology

 - basic concepts on marine microbes and microbial biotechnology

-  fundamentals and applications of algal biotechnology

-  fundamental and application of aquaculture biotechnology

- fundamental of bioremediation

- Applications of biomedical marine biotechnology.

This course will also be introduced basic facets of microbiology, chemistry and genomics as it is needed during the introduction of specific subjects.

SL31003 PERMODELAN PERSISIRAN PANTAI [2-2022/2023]

In recent decades, numerical modelling has evolved into a potent instrument for tackling complex coastal dynamics. Frequently, theoretical and numerical solutions are unavailable or require verification by physical modelling. In such situations, it is necessary to create and test physical models to better comprehend the actual processes involved. This course introduces coastal modelling and the interaction of environmental components in the application of a model in a coastal area. This subject is comprised of software applications, including Surfer, techniques for remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS), and Delft3D DashBoard. Analyses involving data collecting and analysis, mapping, scale and boundary impacts in physical modelling; computer methods used to analyse coastal and estuarine phenomena.
